Wine, mushrooms and …. fishing in the Chianti Classico

On Saturday 11th October will take place our next event at the De Gustibus farms. This time we go to the area of the Chianti Classico, where we are hosted by the winery Podere Meriggio alle Falcole, of Loretta and Maurizio. The farm is located in the beautiful Chianti landscape on a hill above the Castel of Montefioralle.

At the small farm, with vinyards oriented towards south (= “meriggio”), Maurizio and Loretta produce excellent olive oil and natural wine. Particularly interesting is one of their wines, which is coming out of an old vinyard containing the grapes of the ancient “recepy” of Chianti Classico: a real cultural heritage!

We make our wine in the vinyard”, is their motto, meaning that they produce a high quality of grape which doesn’t have to be adjusted in the cellar by additives. All the production process follows the traditional, hundreds of years old techniques of wine-making of the Chianti Classico.

On Saturday 11, who wants to spend a pleasant afternoon in the country-side, can arrive already at 3 PM and join us looking for mushrooms in the woods of the farm or go fishing at the lake beside the vinyard. The weather-forecast promises blue sky, sun, warm temperatures and almost full-moon at night.

Here is the program of the day:

3 PM: until sunset (7 PM) it is possible to look for mushrooms in the wood or fish in the lake of the farm.

7:30 PM: apetizers with traditional Tuscany products (ham, cheese, bruschetta) and tasting of the wines of the farm in the cellar and also the just harvested wine of 2014.

Afterwards, at 8:30 PM we drink the wine together with a good traditional meal for Autumn: pasta with mushrooms, deer, salads and patatoes and a homemade cake.

The contribution to the expenses of the dinner is € 30 for associates; (€ 14.00 for children under 12 anni, children under 4 for free). Reservation required. Who is not a De Gustibus member, is asked to inform us at the moment of reservation and applying for membership (contribution for membership 5 Euros/year).
